As some of you already know from reading my tweets, Mozart has been having a rough couple of days. He was vomitting on Sunday night (very colorful too – lots of pieces of string and fabric.. he must have gotten into something again when I wasn’t looking – either my laundry basket or inside my dresser
)
Since then, he has been eating regularly.. but his litter box is empty. He sits in it for over 20 minutes at a time, but nothing happens. He is also less active, and stopped purring. I can tell that he is feeling uncomfortable, and I just wish there was something I could do to fix him right away.
I brought him to the vet this afternoon and we spent 3 hours there. Mozart had to be sedated (he just hates going to the vet) so they could examine him properly, do some bloodwork, and take X-rays.
Unfortunately, the X-rays weren’t as clear as the doctor would have liked — they usually give an animal Barium first so that they can see a better image from the X-ray, but since Mozart had to be sedated they couldn’t give it to him safely. (apparently it can cause a lot of complications such as pneumonia, and we definitely don’t want that!)
But we could still tell from the X-ray that his stomach was full of food, but his intestines are completely empty.. obviously indicating some sort of blockage. The question is how serious the obstruction may be… the vet gave me a liquid laxative to feed him every 8 hours with a syringe, and it would be GREAT if that worked. But at this point it doesn’t look very likely — they told me if his litter box is still empty by tomorrow afternoon, I have to bring him back for more X-rays to see if there has been any change.. and then discuss operating procedures. I’m 100% positive that there is a blockage from his nasty habit of eating clothing and other stuff, but the vet wants to be absolutely sure before deciding to operate on him. Which makes sense, after all I’m not a professional.
If he throws up again, I’m supposed to bring him in immediately and they will perform emergency surgery. I’m very worried about him right now and just want him to get better!! I want to thank everyone who has expressed their concern on Twitter — I really appreciate your support, and I’m sure Mozart does too.
Wish him good luck please!! XoXo Andi
