Ok, so I am a little curious about this one… It’s possible that maybe I just don’t understand the whole point…
To me, it seems that anybody who is too stupid to realize that there is, in fact, water in this pool.. is probably not the type of person to stop and take notice of such a sign (if they can even read..)
I honestly don’t see how it helps in terms of safety.
If there is a valid reason for this sign that I’m missing here, please feel free to fill me in!

Perhaps for skateboarders? Maybe it was utilized for skating before and now it is used as a swimming pool? I can only guess, who knows for sure. Thanks for the laugh of the day Andi.
Unlikely, but I suppose it’s a possibility! I can’t come up with a better suggestion than that one..
It Is For The Really Slow Ppl lol
I would understand if it wound be “Danger – NO water in pool”! But… Well… maybe they also have a “beware of no dog” sign.
And, this makes no sence to post this, but I just had the feeling to do it because its so cute and so true:

haha that is cute!
Maybe that sign is outside of a fire, and it is telling you were to get the means to put it out!
Haha, No.. I took that picture myself, and trust me there was no fire nearby!
You know how it is nowadays…no one wants to take responsibility for anything they do in case something goes wrong. Maybe just to advise some “idiots” that if you go swim, you risk drowning…this way they can’t use the line, “Well, I didn’t know there was water there”
That reminds me of whenever I serve food at our pub and I say “mind the plate, it’s hot” and the first thing a person does is touch it, almost every time, followed by an expletive, then give you a look as if they weren’t warned! Health and Safety is ridiculous here though, on our kettles we have to have stickers saying “Caution – may become hot in use”.
haha! When I served pizza I had to say the same thing to customers.. with exactly the same reaction as you just described! its very hard not to smile in satisfaction… probably one of the reasons I no longer work at that job
It’s even funnier when one person does it, then someone at the same table follows the example immediately afterwards. The customer is always right!
I’d say it’s just someone looking to cover their ass liability-wise. If some moron manages to drown him- or herself, no one can say there was no warning posted.
Either that or somebody is poking fun at all the absurd warning labels that are all over products nowadays. You know, like the cans of peanuts that say “Warning: product contains peanuts,” etc.
When it’s dark and calm you can’t tell if there is water in the pool. Also, some pools use pool covers to keep debris out; when they cover a pool you wouldn’t know if there is water there or not. Just look at the movie Unbreakable for an example of why that might be dangerous.
Valid points.. but really, is there no such thing as Common Sense anymore?! (I haven’t seen Unbreakable, by the way)
What?! How can you miss that movie?!
Common sense has never been common to all and is only occasionally sensible. You have to understand, the human brain is essentially a supped up chimp brain. All your instincts are basically the same as any other monkey’s. We’re all just apes wearing clothes.
All the more reason to promote “Survival of the Fittest”!
But wouldnt it make more sence, if the sign would say ” Danger – Pool”? Or is a 4-6ft deep hole less dangerous than a (covered) pool full of water?
The bottom of most pools are pale blue or white. They have a high albedo and can be seen in ambient light quite well. Most pool covers are black and nearly invisible at night.
I can’t explain the sign, but can I “fill you in” just the same?
I think it’s probably meant for those irresponsible parents who take their children everywhere they go and leave them unattended to wander around and get in all sorts of misadventures, such as falling into a pool filled with water!
