Okay everyone, I know that most of the time you come to check out my blog when you want to laugh, be mildly entertained, or see some sexy pics
But once in awhile I feel the need to get serious…
Today is Puppy Mill Awareness Day (well it’s generally anytime between Sept 18-20, depending on location..), Although it’s a sad & depressing topic that causes a lot of anger for most people, I think that makes it even more important to acknowledge that this sort of thing is happening. You don’t have to be a dog or cat lover to understand that animal abuse and neglect is wrong. No living creature should have to suffer like that, especially simply so that someone can make a greater profit from animal breeding. It honestly makes me sick to my stomach… and VERY ANGRY!
I’m not asking you guys to donate money or start a riot in the streets or anything extreme like that, it would just be nice if you could pass this information on to friends, coworkers or family members who may not be aware of the cruel and inhumane conditions of puppy mills. (Especially if you know anyone who is considering buying a new pet!!)

There are a few simple & basic things to keep in mind, which is what Awareness Day is all about:
“1. We ask that everyone boycott pet stores that sell pets. Not only should you not buy a puppy but should not buy supplies or food at these stores. Most of the animals for sale at Petland, PetWorld & other similar shops are purchased from puppy mills.
2. Adopt your next pet, go to a reputable rescue group or shelter.
3. Spay and Neuter your pets. Shelters are filled with homeless dogs and cats, and there simply aren’t enough homes to go around.” (The more puppies & kittens that end up on the streets = more animals being euthanized.)

If you want a pedigree dog, odds of finding one at a rescue shelter are pretty low.. it IS okay to get your pet from a breeder, but please do your research first!! Look online for important factors to consider before choosing a breeder, so you know what questions to ask and can be sure you aren’t supporting a “puppy mill in disguise”.

This cause really means a lot to me, so to those who actually take the time to read this, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

its sad.. when I see the adds to help a child… meh I feel bad but can take it. but when I see the adds for people hurting animals… it makes even me cry sometimes. I still can remember the video of the bear with the chain in his mouth, getting hit to dance… I cried.. and I was 19 when I seen it.
no one can head a puppy say stop, you cant hear them tell you that someone is hurting them or treating them bad, someone MUST speak out for the little guys who cant call out for help.
I know what you mean.. I like animals better than people too!
Same here!! Animals just have that unconditional love for their “owners”….don’t like using the word owner when it comes to pets, but you know what I mean. They know when you’re sad, and they come see you, or when you feel a little angry, they might do something cute to lift your spirits….Most people would care less, and take advantage of you no matter what.
wow, I can’t believe I didn’t hear about this earlier. thanks for sharing, Andi! I’ll do what I can do help.
It makes me sad how this kind of greedy thinking also has spread to so many of the normal dog owners who see their pet as just an object to give them something to do. it all seems to come from this insane sort of superiority complex in humans and they just become oblivious that other life forms are just like us. many people are even convinced animals don’t feel pain! grrr…
also first time coming across your blog, keep at it! been a fan for a while, it’s great to be able to see you in a new dimension
Thanks Matt

will do for sure
Love when you get serious
Andi,
On Facebook (your personal page), I sent you invites to three groups that I belong to that deal with this subject, and one (fan) page that deals with an injured kitty (keeping in mind that you have Mozart). Please check out those groups when you get a chance and join them if you feel so inclined.
Thanks, I’ll go do that right now!
WOW, this is horrible! It makes me really sad to read that and the pictures just make me sick. I cant understand what some people do, just for the money…
Well, I didnt hear about this day(s) before and I didnt really care about puppy mills and all that. But I made a little researched and… its disgusting!
Nice you’ve pointed on this problem. This will maybe open some peoples eyes.
Glad to hear that! That’s exactly what I was hoping to do.. help people become aware of what’s going on.
I salute you for bringing this to peoples attention, because you might just make one person aware of these sorts of practises and that they take note of those comments when getting a pet. If anyone ever has the stomach to google ‘animal skinning in China’ and watch a video on that subject, it will change their thoughts on owning any item made from animal skin forever. It’s the most barbaric thing I ever witnessed.
Good on ya, Andi
Shiver me timbers. Ahoy thur me hearty, hows the wench feeling today? Yo-ho-ho
Happy Pirate Day to you too!
